Kasper Guldager Jensen speaks about a Circular Economy at Columbia University
What if we, by design, eliminated the concept of waste? Our current way of designing, building and using materials is based on a take, make, and waste tradition. Today the global building industry is accountable for 35% of all material used and 40% of all waste produced. This way of building cannot continue for long - we are simply running out of materials.
We need to challenge and rethink the way we use and reuse materials in the building industry and start seeing buildings as manmade ecosystems. By design, we can provide solutions for a world of growth. In order to build a circular future there are 3 key aspects to focus on; design for disassembly, material passports, and circular economy.
